Orthotic Therapy

Custom orthotic devices are engineered to enhance foot function, provide support, and correct alignment.

Evaluation

Orthotics are tailored to each individual's unique biomechanics, considering the interplay between feet, ankles, knees, and hips. These personalized devices are crafted to fit seamlessly into your shoes. Their primary function is to redistribute foot pressure, enhancing overall performance and potentially alleviating chronic injuries. At Action Health, we recommend orthotics following a comprehensive evaluation.

Orthoses (aka Orthotics)

Our orthoses creation process:

1. Comprehensive evaluation:

  • Your podiatrist conducts a thorough foot and leg assessment
  • Includes specific measurements and functional tests
  • Involves video analysis of your gait (walking/running)

2. Casting the feet:

  • We take negative impressions of your feet
  • These impressions represent your foot in its optimal alignment

3. Custom fabrication:

  • Your podiatrist develops a personalized prescription
  • The prescription and impressions are sent to a specialised orthotic lab
  • Skilled technicians manufacture your custom orthoses

4. Fitting and follow-up:

  • We schedule a fitting appointment to ensure proper placement
  • A subsequent review confirms the orthoses provide adequate support
  • We verify the orthoses fit comfortably in various footwear

Orthoses are frequently prescribed to address various foot-related issues, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel discomfort
  • Achilles tendon issues
  • Shin splints Stress fractures
  • Ankle instability and pain (particularly outer and front joint discomfort)
  • Morton's neuroma Knee pain
  • Callus and corn development help relieve bunion pain and discomfort
  • Arthritic conditions

Addressing the whole foot, not just the problem area orthotics can be an effective tool for managing foot and leg pain, but they should always be part of a comprehensive treatment plan. This means they should be used in conjunction with other treatments.
